How to read these numbers
Our EPS estimate is arithmetic: the Wall Street consensus published by Nasdaq, plus half of the company's median surprise over its last four reports. We publish one only with at least three reports behind it and a median surprise within 25%. It follows the consensus until the report day (6 a.m. ET for morning reporters, 3 p.m. ET otherwise), then it is frozen and never edited. It is not an input to the Signal Ledger valuation.
How it tested. On reports already out, using only the quarters before each one, it landed closer to the reported figure than the Street in 68 of 84 cases, with a median error of 3.2% against 5.6%. That test covers little more than one reporting season, and 73 of those 84 reports beat the Street. In a season when companies miss, this rule will do worse than the Street.
Live record. No live estimate has been graded yet: the first ones are frozen for reports after Nov 2, 2026. Reports before that date have no rule estimate, and we do not fill them in afterwards.
SEC baseline. A few companies also have an older formula on SEC filings, frozen weeks ahead: last year's quarter grown at the recent median rate. It ignores company guidance, and its EPS has often been far off. Each company's report page shows it against the result.
Street EPS is the analysts' average, not ours. Nasdaq's EPS basis can differ from both GAAP and the company's own adjusted figure, so do not assume it compares with the diluted EPS in the table above. None of these figures is a call on how the shares will move. Our record on price calls is in the track record.
